Summer with IXL Math: Practice and Win
This summer our school is encouraging all current 6th and 7th graders to practice math over the summer using IXL. It’s free for students to use over the summer when they access it through Schoology (it’s in the main app drop down). The app provides language support for students and parents in Spanish and other languages.
Our school’s goal is for all students to reach proficiency by earning a SmartScore of 80 on 20 IXL math skills before school starts in the fall. To achieve this goal, please aim to have your child reach a SmartScore of 80 on 2-3 IXL math skills per week this summer. We recommend that students spend approximately 30 minutes on IXL math, 2-3 times a week.
Here’s how the rewards will work at our school:
-
Current 6th and 7th graders who complete at least 5 IXL math skills this summer with a SmartScore of 80 will win a certificate and a large candy in the fall.
-
If at least 50% of the students from your child’s current 6th or 7th grade math class complete at least 10 IXL math skills this summer with a SmartScore of 80, all the students from that class will be invited to a treat party in the fall.
-
If at least 50% of the students from your child’s current 6th or 7th grade math class complete at least 20 IXL math skills this summer with a SmartScore of 80, all the students from that class will also win a voucher for a movie ticket.
Please let other parents of current 6th and 7th graders at our school know about these rewards. If enough students in their child’s math class reach proficiency in at least 20 IXL math skills this summer, all the students in the class will be recognized for their hard work and achievement with a treat party and a movie ticket in the fall!
The school district will be emailing parents and students instructions for how to log into IXL math, and your child’s teacher will be sending home a flyer about this program. (See here for an IXL Log-in Guide (English, Spanish) and Parent Guide (English, Spanish).)
Thank you for helping to spread the word to parents of 6th and 7th graders at our school about this Summer with IXL Math challenge!
