Mark Twain competed in the Science Olympiad CA Regionals for the first time. Founded in 1984, Science Olympiad is one of the premier science competitions in the nation, providing standards-based challenges to 5,500 teams at 400 tournaments in all 50 states.
We had two teams that competed in the Southern California, Los Angeles bracket, which is one of the biggest, most competitive brackets to be in out of more than brackets in California. That said, our two teams finished 20th and 23rd out of the 48 teams in our bracket. Not bad for a first time against seasoned teams, some of which have programs going back almost 40 years and hold multiple National Championships.
Out of the 23 events, we had 14 top 20 placements, 7 top ten placements, and one second place finish – Ethan Loy and Samuel Piak-Heinz in Meteorology. Let's give them a HUGE MARK TWAIN SHARKS CONGRATULATIONS!
We are so proud of our three basketball teams who did an amazing job competing in the FIYA Winter League! Each team only lost 2 games all season. They worked incredibly hard and had to travel for all games. They showed true Mark Twain spirit! Thank you Coach David Gonzalez, Coach Dean Omori and Coach K for being dedicated and passionate coaches!
FOMT has been offering Tennis after school on Fridays from 3:15-4:30 pm. The sessions are winding down. We are so proud of the 30 students who participated and so thankful to Coach Josh, Brian Condon and Elizabeth Chang for making it happen! Thank you to Kara Rossi, Sam Belga, and Christie & Josh Levine for your help!
We are offering a non-contact rugby program (which means it does not include any tackling or direct physical contact). The program will be co-ed and open to all students. Rugby is held Tuesdays after school. Email Coach Patrick for more info!
We are looking forward to our 1st Annual Mark Twain Rugby Classic on April 2nd from 10am-1pm in the quad grassy area. The tournament will feature multiple rugby games for our players to show their parents and friends how much they've learned this
Mark Twain's Running Club meets Mondays at 3:15 near the gym. Pick up is at 4:15. In April running club will transition to Track and Field.
After our Winter sports end (Basketball and Tennis), our spring sports will begin. Rugby will continue until the end of May.
Our spring sports consist of Girls and Boys Soccer and Boys Volleyball and Track and Field and Rugby.
We will also offer girls volleyball skill building sessions.
Stay tuned on practice schedule!
